From the old days to today, photography takes important part in the life of all human. Tamil people used to kept all their wedding photos framed and hanging on the walls of their homes, 10 years back along with the framed greetings which were presented to them on the wedding day. The black and white photos can survive the sun light and chemical reactions in the atmosphere, up to 100 years, while the colour can't, because of this many people lost their color wedding photos. In these days they keep just one of it on the table framed or blocked.

Years back there were no videos used to capture the weddings. Professional video cameras came to Sri lanka in the 80's. In the early day traditional weddings all small children used to gather behind the Cameraman, to collect the burnt flash bulb that were used in each film shot. The winner will take the hot bulb and run away and to find there is nothing just plastic covered burnt bulb, just put it on the ground and crack it and see the broken glasses, then throw it away. But it was a big game for children in those weddings.

Then came the electronic flash, and people wondered how a burnt flash is working again, and the children too lost their curiosity of the photography in the weddings as there is no more hot burnt bulbs. Instead of the bulb, they took their time to showering "paneer water" on the arriving visitors head (many believed that the paneer water will make their black hair to turn white, and they would beg the small ones not to spray it on their head), giving sandalwood, Beatle, soft drinks and so on.

Now most of the things are changed too much from the past. In today's weddings children too used to wear expensive dresses and have to sit and watch the marriage ceremony. If there is a young girl under the age of 10 then she must become as a flower girl. Carrying a flower basket and following the bride and then standing along with the bride for the whole ceremony.

When the Marriage is fixed bride and groom families first job is to find the videographer to make the early booking. And the photography too plays an important role for the bride or bridegroom if one of them is from a restricted country for visa , then the visa official may ask for, not only the wedding registration paper, but also the wedding registration ceremony photo album to issue the visas for the married couple.

Today's wedding video photography is fully developed as a movie with more added back rounds and latest songs added to the scene. The wedding may take place in Colombo, but when you see the video the newly married couple may stand in front of Tajmahal eating cake, and the scene may have been produced with the help of the advanced video editing technology. The best thing is the video camera man knows all the wedding procedures. If the Bride groom wears the "Uthariyam" on the wrong side, the camera will correct it placing it on the correct side. Because the camera man had seen hundreds of weddings in his work and knows each and every thing of the different culture marriages.

After matrimonial ceremonies are over in a month of time, people are waiting to see the wedding video and the marriage registration video and photo album. Normally video is given in 2 VHS cassettes PAL and NTSC system along with a VCD cd, and a DVD cd. The photography album in side a beautiful briefcase like box, where have photos of different kind of lamination, frame works, big and small. These are with full of art work. Some photographers give a bigger photograph of the matrimony couple as a compliment.
