Tamil Wedding Home Coming.

Home coming ceremony for the Tamil wedding in Sri Lanka is celebrated in big scale in the recent times. Actually it was celebrated as "4m Sadangu" in the Tamil weddings. On the Tamil wedding ceremony day there will not be any meat products or fish dishes are not served in the wedding lunch or dinner. So this wedding home coming event is totally looked after as a non-vegetarian dinner party. Also those who does the wedding on a working day where most of their friends and relatives couldn't attend the function or those who celebrate their wedding in towns like Jaffna prefer to have the home coming ceremony as a way to get their friends and relatives together.

In Srilanka some of them plan the event earlier and print the home coming party invitations too early and invite their friends to it when they distribute the invitation for the wedding.

The halls are decorated with balloons and other ornaments. Special seating is provided for the newly married couple and there will be a beautiful cake for them to cut and celebrate the event with their friends and relatives. The groom used to wear full suit while the bride used to wear shining evening wear saree with matching low cut blouse. Usually there is no dress code for the Tamil wedding home coming event although a suit is well respected while full sleeved shirt and long pants with shoes are normal for the event.

Those people who do their wedding in towns like Jaffna make their home coming party in cities like Colombo where they have plenty friends and relatives. Most of the home coming parties used to take place in high class restaurants or in banquet halls. Normally the party is attended by 100 - 400 guests for the dinner where different kinds of non-vegetarian buriyani, fried rice and other seafood dishes are served in buffet style with hot drinks which are served separately to the sounds of the blaring Tamil kuthu music where the happy visitors can dance to the rhythm of the music.

The home coming party used to start at around 7.00 pm and can go up to 2.00 after the midnight or according to the time of the hall hired for the event.
Normally the restaurants and the banquet halls charge for the number of visitors and for the dishes served there according to the organizer. If you are ordering lobster, Tiger Prawns, Prawns or Lamb meat you can expect the price go by US$5 per head.
